Upcoming API changes following change to data source

As you might have noticed, triathlon.org has a brand new website!

Planned downtime 6 August 2020

The Triathlon API will be down on 6 August 2020, from 22:00 CEST and 23:00 CEST. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience during this time

Version 2 of the Live Timing API now available for 2019

Version 2 of the Live Timing API is now available. We highly recommend using this to benefit from better validation and error responses. Click here for more details.

Integrating the Triathlon API with Wordpress

Whilst the Triathlon API provides a familiar JSON output format that may be integrated directly into applications some users may be more comfortable working with the API within the confines of their existing content management systems such as Wordpress. Fortunately Wordpress has a plethora of plugins to ease the process and in particular the JSON content importer plugin that we will focus on this article.

Live Timing 2017

The 2017 Cape Town ITU Triathlon World Cup held on Feb 11th 2017 marked the first time that the new version of the live timing standard was used. Whilst this results in an improved timing interface on Triathlon.org the major implication of this is that API users can receive real-time timing data directly for use in their own applications.

Working with the Subscriptions API

The Subscriptions API is a powerful tool for being notified of changes in resources on the Triathlon API platform. Whilst the full functionality is currently in closed beta we have opened up subscriptions to the Rankings API via the app management portal.

Paralympic Head-to-Head Matchups

To complement our Olympic head-to-head matchups tool we have developed a similar version for the Paralympic Games in Rio.

Scaffolding the Olympic Head-to-Head Simulator

For the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio we decided to use the Triathlon API to build an application so users could quickly compare the performances of any two athletes in the start lists.

Mixed Relay Data Analysis

With the Mixed Relay World Championships having taken place over the weekend in Hamburg it is worth noting that all Mixed Relay data is available in the Team API.

Twitter Event #Hashtag Analysis

With the World Triathlon Stockholm event having taken place over the weekend we decided to perform an analysis of the tweets surrounding the event to see if we could determine trends and sentiment or extract any other valuable information from the Twitter stream. Fortunately, each event in the World Triathlon Series uses a standard hashtag to convey event tweets, which in the case of Stockholm was #WTSStockholm. Naturally, there are many other Tweets that referred to the race but did not incorporate the hashtag hence these will not be included in the analysis below.
